Design for the new Lavaloni flag: Design for the new Lavaloni seal: I motion for final debate on this issue. Afterword, we will vote to give the Counsil's official approval of these symbols. If this vote succeeds, I will present them to the GA for final approval. Second for Debate?

I love the flag, because it is simple and historically/symbollically accurate. I interpret the thin white bars between each colored bars as serving a practical purpose: easier to print, and a symbolic meaning: the period of the Provisional Government (remember it? only klaas and kieran would), which reigned during the 15-day mandated period until the formation of the Republic. The orange is in the center because it represents Democracy (as in the Ukraine) and the Republic. The Blue is on top, because it symbolizes the sky, which is our limit. The green is on the "ground" because it symbolizes a Eucalyptus grove, the "shared common culture" ( alluded to by Kieran Bennett) between Breuddwyd, the Republic, and the Sovereign Principality.
I love the logo, because it contains that very essential component: eucalyptus. Besides that, it indicates motion. It also symbolizes that regardless of where you live, the Eucalyptus (Lavalon) points in your direction. The logo doesn't look cartoonish, like the other one Jon made (of course cartoonish is what some people like...). The 16 leaves have some significance, I just haven't thought of it.
I'm prepared to vote YEA on both.

Well, the 16 points was once again, my take on the Star of Vergina, which is a classic greek symbol. Kinda far away actualy, but that's how it happened.

The flag is awesome... but all that talk about what it stands for confuses me

I am prepared to vote yes for the flag, but will NOT, under any circumstance, vote for the seal.
Xon's zealous reverence of the eucalyptus scares me into thinking his regression might lead us backwards into the quagmire of what we had instead of leading us forwards to what we might have. I'm sorry, but I am with Nate--I don't see the need to cling to the eucalyptus. It holds no meaning in Lavalon anymore other than historical, and living in the past is the first step to repeating it.

The question is: are we truly, truly in a quagmire right now simply because we use the Eucalyptus plant on our logos. Has anyone been harmed? What's more, perhaps our use of the Eucalyptus is beneficial; maybe the continuity between "old" and "new" binds us together?
If you're not going to have Eucalyptus as our symbol, then I suggest that you provide another symbol that is both serious, attractive, and unifying.

A turtle! I'm all for that being the symbol!
Who ever thought of that really-hard-to-spell plant anyways?

In some countries just saying that would be a hate crime.
I like the idea of a turtle; but if it has any signifance whatsoever in Natopia or any of its provinces, I will oppose it with vigor.

Oh. I don't think it does. I just really like turtles. My uncle was going to buy me one for my birthday but my dad wouldn't let me cause he's afraid of them.
And, at the time, and well, still now, I can't remember how to spell the thing. It's just sooo hard!

Does the eucalyptus bind us together and unify us? It seems that it has divided us more efficiently than unifying us.
And by quagmire, I mean the quagmire that led up to the Basic Laws. Amendment fever etc. The Eucalyptus represents that old Lavalon, the Lavalon of the quagmire. That is why I want to be rid of it.

Just as I budged on the forums issue, I am willing to budge on the Eucalyptus issue: as long as the Eucalyptus is on our National Logo, I don't care whether or not it is used elsewhere. I just want the Eucalyptus to have an official place somewhere, not necessarily everywhere.
Also, can we all agree that changing our cultural icons every few months is actually a bad thing rather than a good thing? It would be understandable if, for example, our flag looked like crap and none of us could draw, so we needed to "upgrade" to better graphics; however, that is not the case here in Lavalon. We have the excellent skills of Jon, and to a lesser extent those of Henzelli, and so we have nothing to worry about in regards to our graphics "not measuring up" to those of the rest of the micronational community. What we should worry about is frequently and unnecessarily changing our cultural symbology. Otherwise, things will just get way too confusing.
